It's Homeschool Week

Happy Monday, friends!  Can you believe it... I'm actually posting on a Monday?!  Crazy, I know.  It pretty much never happens.  =)

This is going to be a fun week around here!  Next Monday we begin school so all things home school have been on the brain big-time. A few weeks ago I shared how we were re-vamping our school room and granted that things go as planned, it'll be done in a few days.  My kids cannot wait for school to begin...they literally have been begging.  But this mom is NOT ready, and until I am, we are not starting.  I'm so cruel. =D

Here's the plan for this week:

Tomorrow I'll be sharing my friend Rebecca's school room.  She isn't a blogger, but her family room turned school room is most definitely blog worthy!!  I'm so thankful that she allowed me to take pictures because I believe it will be inspiring to so many.

On Thursday, I'll be sharing our curriculum choices for this year. This had to be the worst year ever trying to decide what to do.  But after much prayer and discussion with my hubby as well as picking the brains of other home school moms, I am extremely happy and excited about what we are doing!

Today I'm going to begin by sharing some links to posts I've written in the past about a variety of homeschool topics.  If there's one thing I've learned over these last six years as a home school mom, it is do what works for you.   Seriously.  Every family and every child has their unique needs.  Don't compare yourself with the mom at church or in your co-op or whatever.  DO NOT!  And I think we moms sometimes need this tattooed on our foreheads! =) Should we borrow ideas and learn from others?  Absolutely!  But you should not judge yourself by what others are doing.  The Bible even tells us that when we "compare ourselves among ourselves" we are not wise.

That being said, (and I'll step off of my soapbox now) I hope these links will be helpful for you, whether you are new to homeschooling or a veteran homeschool mom.

9 Reasons Why We Love Sonlight

This next link was a post written in response to questions I received about "9 Reasons Why We Love Sonlight."  We do not use everything Sonlight has to offer now that my children are older, but we'll talk more about that on Thursday. But their history, as well as their choices of readers and read-a-louds is truly spectacular.

  1. We start back next week too and I'm also putting the finishing touches on our school room, so I'll be looking forward to your posts to help me get in the mood. I'm almost mentally ready to start -- I'm desperately craving a normal routine, even if normal means busy. ; )
