Scripture Art Canvas {Subway style}

As you all know, I'm a huge fan of subway art!  Every since my hubby and I made our Family Rules Subway Art, I've been wanting to make more.  (It's addicting, I tell you!)  Then I saw how Christa at Brown Sugar Toast made a beautiful wedding picture canvas for her bedroom, and I was inspired to made a subway art canvas.  And since I was going to be attending a Favorite Things Party, it was the perfect excuse to finally make it!
First you will need to design your word art (I used photoshop) and have it printed just like you would a photo. (I took mine to Sam's.) It took me a long time to pick a verse...I have so many favorites.  Finally I just asked my pastory hubby, "Honey, if there was one verse you would want our family and our church members to think about and see every day of their lives, what would it be?"  Deuteronomy 6:5......perfect.  (I know I need the reminder!)
Then grab a canvas, a foam brush and some matching paint! (This canvas is an 8x10)
 Since only the sides would be showing, I gave it two coats of black craft paint all around the edges. I also did around the edges of the top, just in case the canvas was a little warped and the picture didn't completely go to the edge.
After the paint is dry, put a thick coat of mod podge down on the canvas and lay your picture on top.  Smooth it out really well so you have good adhesion and don't have any air bubbles underneath. After this sets up for about 30 minutes, brush mod podge all over the top of the photo and edges of the canvas, smoothing it out as you go.  Try to do this step quickly...the glue dries fast and you don't want any blobs in it.  (No pictures of these steps...sorry!)  After it is completely dry, apply a second coat of mod podge.
And there you have it, your very own subway-style Scripture art canvas! I absolutely LOVE it.  Makes the perfect addition to our living room gallery wall!  Not only that, my family and I are seeing this important verse every single day, embedding it into our minds and hearts.  I will definitely be making more of these with different verses to display around our home!

What projects have you done lately that have been inspired by pinterest or another fab blogger? And I'm curious...what would you put on a canvas for your family to see every day?

  5. Love this Laine! Bought a pack of canvases today at Michael's! :) Now to pick a verse - not sure which one I will do. Or should I say which ONES - plan on doing several :)

    do you think other colors would work ok - black lettering on white and leave the canvas white or white or black letters on another color and just paint the edges to match or like Christa did paint them brown and brush it onto the edges up onto the print?

  6. Very cool! I would do Psalms 34:8 " O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him." It would go great in the kitchen! I would do many others too but this is one of my favorite verses!

  10. GORGEOUS, Lane! I love that scripture quoted in the KJV. I now do all my memory work from the New King James, but everything in my memory bank from my childhood is from the KJV. Scripture is such a blessing, and I love the way you've made this verse a beautiful part of your decor.
