This year for our Missions Banquet, I knew I wanted to decorate with globes because of our conference theme. I had high hopes of finding globes through the summer at yard sales and thrift stores. Guess what?? I found ONE!! In desperation I began to look at the price of real globes, and wow, are they expensive or what? Regular sized ones are around $40 and even small ones are about $15-20. (No sure my pastor husband would want me spending that much on a missions banquet decor!)
Last week I was just racking my brain trying to come up with something and I remembered seeing this somewhere.
A chalkboard globe!! How fabulous! (You know I love me some chalkboards!!) Then I really had to get creative! How in the world was I going to make anything even close?
Here's what I did:
Over-sized black Christmas ornaments from Hobby Lobby..........
and little wooden candlesticks and Brushed Metallic "Caramel Latte" spray paint.
These were really quick to make! We spray painted the candlesticks, removed the little ornament hanger from the tops of the balls and then hot glued them together with the topside of the ball resting down into the candlestick.
Next we added some words and continents with a chalkboard marker and "Voila!" We had miniature chalkboard globes! (Special thanks to my friend Larissa for drawing on them...she's a much better artist than I am!)
I was really busy at the banquet and didn't have much time to take pictures, but here is one of them!
Here's one of the long tables where some of them were used.
