Sunday was our first "official Sunday" at Gospel Light! We had a wonderful day and are in awe of the way God has chosen to direct our lives. The Lord directed us to such a great group of people and we are excited to see how God will use our church.
Personally, I am very elated, scared and nervous all at once. There have been certain times in my life that I have realized like never before my need for the Lord's strength and enabling if I will be of any use for Him. And this is definitely one of those times! When we received the phone call last Sunday afternoon that the vote came back positive, that feeling of "I can't do this!!" seemed to overwhelm me. Even though I was happy, I honestly wanted to just run and hide. "Inadequate" kept blinking like a neon sign in my mind. That evening, our last Sunday night at our home church (Emmanuel Baptist), our songleader Bro. Brubaker chose "I Need Thee Every Hour." How fitting. The words of that song hit home like never before! By the last verse I couldn't even sing because I was crying so hard. Once again coming to the recognition that without utter dependence upon the Lord, I really can do nothing, is a sobering thought. But what an encouragement to know that God's promises are true and that I can rest in I Thessalonians 5:24 which says, "Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it." I'm so thankful that I don't have to do it all myself...I would definitely fail!
I do ask that you please pray for our family. This is a big change and we all are having to adjust. (On a humorous side note....it was a little strange to me hearing everyone refer to my husband as "Pastor" or asking me where "Pastor Chambers" was. And then the realization that, "Whoa! This guy I'm married to is MY pastor now!" You wives that have been there, feel free to laugh at me...you know what I mean!) We are so thankful that our children are doing great through all of this and are thrilled about what God has told us to do. Although they miss their friends, they have had such sweet and submissive attitudes about this "adventure." What a blessing!
Hopefully tomorrow I'll post some pictures of Lydia and Caleb on their first night of Patch the Pirate Club...they are so excited!
Pat had just asked me if there had been any news about the church in Newton so I opened your blog page to find the good news. We are just so thankful that God has led you to a new ministry. You and your family will be a blessing indeed at Gospel Light. Blessings on the Chambers family of 5. Pat & Judy Smith
